Blue Morpho Tours--Not Worth It
BlueMorpho Tours, is in my opinion, not worth the investment. I know many people have toured with them and praise them highly. I am very happy for those people and in no way wish for my opinion to take away from theirs. I urge you to make up your own mind if you are considering booking a tour with BlueMorpho. The following is part of my experience with them and the opinions expressed are solely my own:

When I booked my tour with BlueMorpho, their website advertised and still advertises at this writing-"Jungle hikes
Birding
Sport fishing (piranha fishing)
River Swimming
Boat Excursion and Chakra Therapy, Theory, Balancing
Energy Work, Guided Shamanic Journeys and Soul Retrieval
and Walking trails offer our guests a great opportunity of seeing a variety of exotic and colorful wildlife during their stay."

When I was there, none of those activities were offered and a staff member told my group there were "no animals around here". Also, the website states, "Hamilton Souther (owner) leads the shamanic tours." When I was there, Hamilton passed off duties to apprentices, one in particular who, although very nice, seemed completely overwhelmed by the responsibility. This apprentice told my group--over 30 of us--that the Ayahausca we'd drink during the ceremonies would cleanse us through vomit and/or bowel movements, but not to worry because "The Spirits always ensure there is not a line for the bathrooms." When I was there, there was a long line all night. We were told we could call the Shamans mentally and they would come help us during the ceremonies. I tried that. No one came. We were told Hamilton was always available to talk to/counsel us at all times. But we only saw him at meal time and ceremony time. Even while preparing the Ayahausca, he wandered off. I expected that preparation to be treated with reverence and respect. In my opinion, it was not. We were given a "10 minute one on one" session with him in which an apprentice was present. My session was about 5 minutes long during which Hamilton appeared disinterested. He didn't make consistent eye contact, either. After our first ceremony he gathered us in a room to talk about our experience then walked out and left us with his apprentice once again.

My group was not counseled or given much information about what to expect drinking Ayahausca for the first time. In my opinion, we were unprepared. When I was there, Hamilton and his staff seemed very tired and over worked. I asked an apprentice where all the activities were that they advertised and was told, "They all happen naturally during the ceremonies." I spoke to others in my group who were new to BlueMorpho and they were unhappy like me.

I left the tour early--as did at least two others I know of. When I got back to the States, I asked for my money back through the credit card company I paid with. BlueMorho refused for several months telling the credit card company that they would have "negotiated" with me had I gone to them directly. I contacted them and offered to pay for half even though I believed they should refund my money in full. They refused to refund half the money. I implied I would write the Peruvian government and tell them all about my experience with them and then they said would "consult their attorney and accountant" and try to "figure out" a way to refund my money. What Hamilton figured out was a "return of monies" contract he wanted me to sign, have notarized and sent back to him. That contract stated that he would indeed refund my money in full, but I would never be able to speak about him or BlueMorpho not only publicly, but privately as well. I didn't sign.

Although he did apologize once, Hamilton never once acknowledged any of my specific complaints (there were more than I've listed here) even though I quoted him, his staff, and his website when explaining why I wanted a refund. He kept saying, "Amazonian Shamanism is not for everybody." I kept telling him I had no problem with Amazonian Shamanism, but with his tour specifically. I acknowledged that it must be hard to receive negative feedback and told him I sincerely hoped my group was the first and last to experience anything negative. He still never addressed my complaints which included safety issues and fire hazards.

I wish him and BlueMorpho the best. I hope everyone who chooses to go there is happy with their tour. I, however, cannot recommend them in any way. When I went last September, I paid $685.00 and they required a $100.00 deposit for a 6 day tour. They now charge $1640.00 and require a $820.00 deposit and only offer 9 day tours.

Best of luck and much love.

I feel for your distress. It's clear you didn't experience what you expected and therein lies the issue.

I have taken part in 10 ceremonies with Hamilton and Blue Morpho and wouldn't consider going anywhere else. I was called spiritually to shamanism and came with no expectations other than to grow spiritually and learn more about myself and my true nature. I got more than I ever imagined. The Jungle hikes and other activities are great but I was there for the shamanism and had no expectations about anything else. The entire experience is built around the ceremonies - they are the reason the camp exists - to help others, if they choose, to learn more about their own true nature and help them live more satidfying lives by balencing their physical, spiritual, and psychological sides.

Again, I'm sorry you didn't have the experience so many others have had and I hope this won't deter you from continuing your spiritual search either again with Blue Morpho or another path. That's what's really important.

    I'll be back in November.
    Sincerely,
    John

I think it is sad when anyone who is trying to grow spiritually gets exploited in the process. It is also sad that one feels the need to go on a tour to find what he may be looking for. Everything you seek is in your spirit......all you have to do is comunicate with your soul; and for that, you dont need a rip off artist to guide you there.

come on, man... rip off artist?? Hamilton souther is not a rip off artist. He offers what he offers. Maybe you should drink some more aya and ask the spirits to straighten you out and teach you on the subject of money and enterprise. good luck

I do not hesitate to recommend Blue Morpho.

I will be attending my fourth session at Blue Morpho this June (2007). This will also be my third Diet session.

Blue Morpho is a sacred place that provides a space for people to undergo incredible and major healing and Spiritual growth and transformation. It is not a tourist place to go and play in the jungle. It is a place for serious and totally transformative Work.

The staff at Blue Morpho are totally dedicated to creating the space for people to come and be healed and to be transformed.

Some people are not ready for this type of personal healing, growth and transformation, so they fight it. One way they fight it is by making unfounded allegations against the people who are there to help. They do this, not realizing the true reason for their objections.

The Subconscious and Unconscious can work that way, perhaps to protect those that aren't quite ready for major personal growth and transformation.

The transformative and healing Work that a person does at Blue Morpho is not easy. It is Work, but well worth the effort. What else really matters?

I will continue the Work I am doing at Blue Morpho. I do not hesitate to recommend Blue Morpho.

Having never been to Blue Morpho, and having no personal opinions of the matter, I have a feeling that what you wrote, Victor, is the truth... that Iananna's experience was largely coloured by her unconscious process and resistance.....

BTW ladies, BMT is a great place to lose few pounds - I guarantee it, the food is lean and we are on a restricted diet - everyone comes back lighter, figuratively and literally. ;-)

Trolls? Alts? Plants? Or valid experiences... who knows.

Is BlueMorpho the way to go for an Aya newbie? What about that church Brazil? Is that one any good?

        Hi Omar,

I would most definitely recommend going to Blue Morpho as a newbie, as I did in July 2007. It was an amazing experience. My girlfriend was with Santo Daime from Brazil once before attending Blue Morpho. Her experience was not negative in any way, she just felt that Blue Morpho was more helpful and that she felt more sure of herself while at Blue Morpho. It seems that the Santo Daime group is also much more focussed on religious ritual, which by no means is negative, but is not what she was looking for.

As for me, I have not taken Aya anywhere else, but cannot fault the people or the experience at Blue Morpho on any level. It was truly amazing and life changing, in a positive way. The Shamans guide you throughout the 10 days you are there.

        Good Luck!

I absolutely loved my time at Blue Morpho. Very hard work but absolutely life-changing in the best possible way. Strong medicine there. Wonderful people. I'm returning for ten sessions in Oct/Nov. There are so many good things I could say about them...

If anyone is interested, mail me and I'll send you my very long trip report detailing everything I experienced there.

did someone seriously just say that someone should take aya and have the spirits teach them about MONEY and ENTERPRISE????

that sounds like the anti of what you should be looking for in anything let alone ayahuasca...

if you take it you should ask how we can decapitate the BULLSHIT system that is money and capitalism....

and get back to the SPIRIT and the LAND. and FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE....

          god some people are assholes....

          MUST SUPPRESS URGE TO KILL.....

seriously....take ayahuasca to learn how to charge 1800 dollars for things that should be FREE AND PART OF EVERY DAY LIFE....

HOW FAR UP YOUR ASS DID YOU LOSE YOUR HEAD?!?!?!?!?!!!!

          what an asshole...

im sorry for the content of my post as im sure someone will tell me to grow up and not be mean or what the crap ever else....

          but DUDE.....

respect the medicine.....and YOU grow up.......and see that we should be figuring out a way to GET OUT OF this system of money and capitalizing off of helpless people who know NOTHING and have NO POWER....

          jesus god.....

ill be more than willing to provide any SOB anywhere with a free ayahuasca journey through our most beloved columbia gorge in portland oregon....

ill provide everything. you just be you......and we will see where we go..

like ive said in countless topics in this tribe. i have only done aya by myself. i have always ONLY prepared it myself etc etc. i dotn know why youd need someone else to be there to help you with anything.....juts relax, chill out, be yourself, and let things take their course....
ive never had anything but the most gentle guiding hand on my back. nothing has ever been the least bit scary or abrasive. no puking, no diarrhea, no anything. i understand about dieta and such, but dont necessarily follow it, because i know myself etc.

seriously. dont be a dumbfuck. aya is a most personal experience, and i dont see why you would put yourself or your "money" in someone elses hands to show you what YOU KNOW WITHIN YOURSELF.

most of what i hear about these guides etc are that they are not worth it, and from my own knowledge that the victim would have had a much better time in the comfort of their own homes, or out in a nice place in nature with either themself or some close friends.

dont give people your money. dont go to some outlandish place.......that degrades the medicine making a big hooplah out of it......what a joke.....its tourism its the bullshit of all bullshits....its whats wrong with america and the world....

use your brain. think. learn. apply.

"im sorry for the content of my post as im sure someone will tell me to grow up and not be mean or what the crap ever else.... "

Well, you could tone it down a bit.

Some members of the ayahuasca.com forum have been making the same arguments for years . . .

It's ok to argue that, but try to be cool about it. You're only tainting your message by freaking out.

-- i smell fish ----- the sister's post was very well written and respectful - she had a bad experience at BM -- this tribe is designed 4 the sharing of info -- that's all she's doing - i support her fully - and question the integrity of those friendless people replying -
-- as someomne who has been traveling 2 peru 4 years working with plant medicine i will say that ayahuasca is not something 2 be taken lightly and i would never recommend a novice take it by themselves - there are many trustworthy people down there doing amazing things with their medicine - i will happily share where to find them if anyone is interested --

-- it grieves me 2 read these replies - where is the love and respect ???

I loved it there so much that i got a tattoo to always rememer my trip. Blue Morpho is the only place in the world where i could hear my own thoughts. Which is always so difficult for me to do on my own, simply because i have so many worries/responsibilities on my mind that pretty much drive me.

One of my friends just got back from Blue Morpho's latest trip and she said it was just as loving and caring of an environment as it has been previously.

I am going back there for the October trip with two great friends that i have happened to have met at Blue Morpho =)

Love and Light to you all on your journeys! =)

I think it is important here not to go to extremes. In the middle we'll find the truth. Is Hamilton and Blue Morpho a rip-off? no. Is he a god hero? not necessarily. He is just a guy, an experienced and caring shaman, who is doing his best to run a center. As blue morpho goes through growing pains, experiences like the one lananna had are bound to happen. When you've got a lot of expectation, and rightly so, and your experience is lacking then it is understandable to get annoyed. Perhaps in that time Hamilton was distracted, stressed, busy, who knows, he missed the mark a bit, perhaps the group was too large for individual attention. We have to make sure we don't confuse ayahuasca shamans with enlightened gurus. they are not. Ayahuasca is the guru, and the shaman is like a cosmic tour-guide. In my opinion blue morpho is an excellent place, but it needs to heed these warning signs and keep things personal, humble and honest. Hope this helps.

Let me put it in simple terms: Blue Morpho and all the rigamarole spinning around it reminds me of when I was a cub scout, sitting around the campfire singing Kumbayah and toasting marshmellows. The major difference is that you have a lot of greed involved, greed and arrogance. It has to be the phoniest, most un-spiritual experience one could have. You would have had a better more valuable experience were you to sit in your living room, smoking pot, drinking beer and listening to Led Zeppelin on your earphones. But you are 100% correct it is not worth the investment, and I think that stock in the Hamilton Souther Corporation has fallen on the NYSE.
