Hi Everybody,
My friend & I plan to buy land
& start a little farm in Peru in Jan '10.
We'll own individual pieces of land right next to each other,
share some common costs & enjoy the spirit of community.
I’m especially interested in Entheogens
And hope to eventually host Retreats, Ceremonies and things…
A few more of my interests include:
Dzokchen (meditation), Music, Art, Medicinal Plants,
Permaculture, Farming, Exploring, Celebrating…
If your interested in our community,
Please send me a message.
I’ll be in Peru in June.
Best Wishes,
Jay

Re: ...Starting a Community in Peru...
Sun, April 26, 2009 - 10:22 AMmy initial reaction is to wonder what the people who already live in the region you choose will think of you coming from outside and competing with them in the market?
am i mistaken regarding the scenario here?
you plan on moving to peru to produce some kind of food and sell it where? and by so doing how are you benefiting the people in the region who likely work very hard for the little they have?
maybe i misunderstand?

Re: ...Starting a Community in Peru...
Sun, April 26, 2009 - 6:37 PMIt´s one thing to say you are going to do something like this, it´s an entirely different thing to actually start to do it, and something beyond exceptional to actually make it happen. Just trying to live out here day to day feels like swimming through mud while the locals simultaneously try to pick your pockets while pushing your head under the mud.
There really isn´t competition per se around here involving ayahuasca because for every honest curandero there are a thousand brujos. If anything, those of us who are his ´competition´ will be his support group trying to help him avoid the pitfalls and keep his spirits up while he suffers through the process of getting established.
He´ll either be made of tough, tough stuff and stick it out and do the good he says he wants to do or he´ll give in and give up and go somewhere else. -

...Starting a Community in Peru...
Sun, April 26, 2009 - 9:03 PMya, i wasn't super clear, sorry...
we do have some aspirations to help others
although i know it's takes more than good intentions...
my friend helped establish a successful NGO in Peru a few years back
and I have some love, a semi-clear mind, & energy
so I do hope things work out well for everyone...
i'm sure it won't be perfect,
but what's life if you don't try...
i'll spare you the bore of elaborating more...
and yes, i can imagine some folks not liking "rich americans"
but there's not much i can do about that... -

Re: ...Starting a Community in Peru...
Mon, April 27, 2009 - 2:09 PMyou make a good point, embrace.
even when you dohave good intentions and the means to contribute to the community, it can always be hard to be a gringo living here longterm, in many ways.
tarapoto is nice, though, because theyre not flooded with gringos like Iquitos is, so you end up being treated with friendly curiosity...i think this is a wonderful place to begin a small alternative community of gentle eco-lovers who can educate the locals about kosher ways to treat the earth.
i would love to hear more about this as it develops. -

...Starting a Community in Peru...
Wed, April 29, 2009 - 6:16 PMHey Nobuoni,
ya, great question...
wish i had great answers : o
generally, we'll see how it goes...
slowly, slowly, i'm sure...
i really like building things
and i think bamboo is good around there
so probably alot of bamboo
generally, i'll probably do what the locals do
and ask for alot of help...
but i guess my big interest is
with ayahuasca, san pedro, & mind
my friend's more into permaculture
although i love all that stuff too...
i'm sure we'll end up with a very green community
contributing to the larger community
but the near future will probably be
focused on plant magic for me...
Hope your feelin good : ) -

Re: ...Starting a Community in Peru...
Thu, April 30, 2009 - 7:55 AMyes there is alot of bamboo here.
ayahuasca doesnt grow very commonly here in tarapoto, atleast not in the wild anyway. some people have plants in their yards but as far as having enough to brew for clients, most curanderos in this area get it shipped from Sauce or even Pucallpa.
what is the name of your friend´s organization?
