going to Iquitos, seeking advice

I'm planning to go to Iquitos later this year for 2 weeks for very specific healing. I'm considering two options:

1) two weeks with Percy Garcia, or
2) one week with Percy and the other with someone else - ideally one-on-one or small group sessions, wouldn't mind roughing it more than a bit to bring down the cost

Which one do you think would be the best, and if 2), whom would you recommend?

My command of Spanish is limited but I can learn it if it can help.

Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.

depends, there might not be too many people at percy's center right now and if carlos is there, you wont have to learn anymore spanish at all. you also might be able to negotiate the price.

do you mind me asking why you want a small group session?

I'm going in October or November, summer is crowded from what I've heard. Have already contacted Percy and Carlos.

I imagine small groups are better - more attention paid to every participant, less distraction, etc.

        that's not neccessarily true.

it depends on who's there and what theyre dealing with.

one really sick individual can distract/take all kinds of attention, but i wouldnt worry about being abandoned with these guys, you'll get the individual attention you need surely.

I have known Percy for many years, well before he came to the conference, and I give him a very high recommendation. Percy has wonderful ceremonies; the only problem I see is the large number of participants in some of them, something that can be distracting, at least for me. My ceremonies alone with Percy are quite memorable, but I think nowadays he doesn't do that.

But maybe you should also check out other curanderos, if for nothing else, to have a better perspective.

If he has recovered from his broken hip, Don Solon performs amazing ceremonies, but he must be in his 90's by now.

Alan Shoemaker, who created the conference in Iquitos, would be a good person to help you explore the possibilites of other curanderos. He can be contacted through Soga del Alma, his web site.

You can bring the cost down considerably.

I was under the impression that Don Solon lived in Pucallpa.

Don Solon Tello lives in Iquitos and, because of his age, does ceremonies in the back room of his house, which is only a few blocks from the plaza. You may have him mixed up with another by the name of Solon. "Don" is a title used to show respect, usually reserved for older men. If you do have the opportunity to participate in a ceremony with him, it would be well worth your while.

As far as I know Don Solon has only drank medicina once since the accident, with my friend and curandero Don Jorge. Pretty sure Don Solon just isn't holding ceremony anymore....but he always shows up when his students call him, and quite a presence he has....

I'm going to have to disagree with the last post regarding their attitude toward Blue Morpho. Yes Hamilton owns Blue Morpho but as he tells ALL the guests who visit, Don Alberto Torres Davila (his Maestro) is head of the mesa. He has been a maestro for 33 years and DOES NOT take instructions from Hamilton on how to hold ceremonies, that is patently ridiculous. I have sat in over 60 ceremonies with both of them and all I can say is that I have seen firsthand how they have helped many people. Is Blue Morpho expensive compared to other lodges, possibly. I'm sure there are a good amount of other excellent shamans in the area, but you will not go wrong with Hamilton and Don Alberto, the bonus being that for the people who want it, you have an experienced Shaman who can help you through the process in english. (which for some participants is welcome) As for pay, I don't know exactly what Alberto gets, but I do know he is one of the wealthiest guys in his village, and I say this from experience, since I've been to his house several times. Hope this helps.
